How Much is Needed to Finish the Operahouse?

Currently the Historic Homestake Opera House Society needs approximately $4 million to completely restore the Opera House to its original splendor. This cost would include state-of-the-art sound, lighting and stage equipment. Theater seating, the grand chandellier, artwork, dressing rooms, curtains for the stage and the proscenium arch, which all need to be replaced.

With such a large amount of money needed, how can I help?

As with every project of this magnitude, we all must start somewhere. The theater and stage floors have been replaced, yet unfinished. The front foyer and theatre lobby are close to looking as they did in 1914, and the salvaged stained glass lights have been restored, with several needing to be replaced. The pool area is now a meeting room for community organizations, and includes private offices and work stations. June 10, 2005, the Opera House Society purchased the Historic Theatre and Recreation Center in hopes of being able to raise the required remaining funds to complete the resoration with all funds going through our non-profit Society. The recreation building now houses the offices for the Lead Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development, Blue Dog Framers and Art Gallery, and the offices for the Historic Homestake Opera House Society staff. With your help the Opera House complex will once again become the center of the Lead community.
